If you’re considering replacing a missing tooth, cost is understandably one of the first questions you may have about dental implants. There isn’t one price that applies to every patient. The cost depends on the number of teeth being replaced, the type of implant treatment required, your oral health and whether any additional treatment is needed.

At True Dentistry Bolton, dental implant treatment currently starts from £2,754.

What affects the cost of dental implants?

Dental implant treatment is planned around your individual needs. While two people may both be looking to replace a missing tooth, the treatment required can be quite different.

One of the main factors affecting cost is the type of implant treatment you need.

Single tooth implants

If you are missing one tooth, a single dental implant can be used to replace it.

The implant is placed into the jawbone to act as a replacement for the missing tooth root. Once the area has healed, a custom-made crown is fitted to complete the restoration.

Unlike a traditional bridge, an implant can replace a single tooth without relying on neighbouring teeth for support.

Multiple teeth implants

If several teeth are missing, you won’t necessarily need an individual implant for every tooth.

Dental implants can be positioned to support multiple replacement teeth, with the number and position of the implants determined by your individual needs.

Implant-retained dentures

Dental implants can also be used to provide additional stability for dentures.

Implant-retained dentures use implants placed within the jaw as secure anchor points for the denture. This can reduce movement and provide greater stability when eating and speaking.

What else can affect the price of dental implants?

The type of implant treatment is only one part of the overall cost. Your existing oral health and the condition of your jawbone also need to be considered.

Dental implants require sufficient healthy bone for support. If there has been bone loss around a missing tooth, additional treatment such as bone grafting may be recommended. As this adds another stage to treatment, it can affect both the overall cost and treatment time.

Your teeth and gums also need to be healthy before treatment begins. If we identify decay, gum disease or another dental concern, this may need to be addressed first. An assessment allows us to consider these factors and provide a clear treatment plan based on what you actually need.

How long does dental implant treatment take?

Dental implant treatment usually takes place over several months, with much of that time allowing your mouth to heal between stages.

For a straightforward case, the overall process can take around six months. More complex treatment may take longer, particularly if a tooth needs to be removed or bone grafting is required.

At True Dentistry, the process typically follows these stages:

Stage 1 – Examination

Treatment begins with an examination. This allows us to assess your oral health, confirm whether an implant is suitable and plan your treatment.

Stage 2 – Intra Oral Scans and CBCT Imaging

This allows us to safely determine where we can place an implant and to show you the expected outcome prior to any surgery,

If a tooth needs to be removed first, healing following a straightforward extraction may take around three months, before the site can be considered for an implant. If bone grafting is required, this procedure can be carried out at the time of implant placement and will not affect healing time.

Stage 3 – Implant placement

The dental implant is placed into the jawbone, where it acts as a replacement for the root of the missing tooth. Guided bone regeneration, if required, is usually done at this time.

Stage 4 – Healing: Around 3 months

The implant is given time to integrate with the surrounding bone, creating a stable foundation for the replacement tooth.

Stage 5 – Final restoration

Once healing is complete, the final restoration can be fitted. For a single implant, this will usually be a custom-made crown. For patients replacing several teeth or having implant-retained dentures, the final restoration will depend on the treatment planned.

Although the complete process can take several months, most of this time is spent healing rather than attending appointments.

Are dental implants worth the cost?

Dental implants are a significant investment, so it is reasonable to consider whether they are the right choice for you. They provide a stable way to replace missing teeth and can be used for anything from a single missing tooth to several teeth or an unstable denture.

With appropriate daily care and regular dental reviews, implants are designed as a long-term solution. They aren’t suitable for everyone, however, and alternatives such as bridges or dentures may sometimes be more appropriate.

The right option will depend on your oral health, circumstances and what you would like your treatment to achieve.

Can I spread the cost of dental implants?

Finance options are available at True Dentistry Bolton to help eligible patients spread the cost of treatment.

True Dentistry currently offers finance on treatment balances over £250, with 0% APR over 12 months and 9.9% APR over 24 to 60 months, subject to application and terms.

We’ll explain the costs and available payment options as part of your treatment plan, allowing you to consider what works for you before making a decision.

Frequently asked questions about Dental Implants

How much is one dental implant in the UK?

Dental implant prices vary according to the practice and treatment required. At True Dentistry Bolton, dental implant treatment currently starts from £2,754.

Do I need one implant for every missing tooth?

Not necessarily. If several teeth are missing, implants can sometimes be used to support multiple replacement teeth rather than placing an individual implant for each one.

Can dental implants be used with dentures?

Yes. Implant-retained dentures use implants placed within the jaw to provide secure anchor points for a denture, offering greater stability than a conventional removable denture.

Can I have dental implants if my teeth have been missing for years?

Potentially. The jawbone can change after a tooth is lost, so the amount of available bone will need to be assessed. Some patients may require additional treatment, such as bone grafting, before an implant can be placed.

How long do dental implants last?

Dental implants are designed as a long-term treatment. Their lifespan varies between patients and depends on factors including oral hygiene, gum health, general health and ongoing professional care.
